Individuality is the key to being the best you you can be

Individuality is something everyone has. It is something that makes you unique. Being yourself and positive can be very simple but, then again, can be difficult.

People say that middle school and your first couple of years in high school are your awkward years. I can honestly vouch for that because in seventh grade I needed braces and didn’t get them off until I was in high school. I never felt like I could smile because of all the metal in my mouth. Now that I look back on that time, my braces were something that made me unique. Did I think they were ugly? Absolutely, but my teeth are now straight, so shout out to my parents for paying for that very uncomfortable metal. The positive outcome of this was that I now have straight teeth and 16 months of metal in my mouth was worth it.

At my current age of 21, I never thought I would have to deal with acne. That is something you normally deal with in your awkward years, but nope, not me. I am dealing with it now. When it appeared on my face just a few short months ago, I thought everyone was looking at it. It is red and it’s ugly. I absolutely hate it, but then I thought to myself why would people be looking at it? Why would they care? It isn’t their face. It is mine, and I have learned to deal with it. I put my medicine on it and go on about my day. It is something that I have learned is a part of me at this current time.

Well, some people may be like me, but I feel like most people resort to makeup. Makeup can obviously cover something up. I have had some family ask why I don’t put makeup on to cover up the acne on my face. My answer is, “I don’t need it.” Plus, all makeup does is irritate the acne. Do not get me wrong. I wear makeup, but only when necessary.

Makeup is fake. Makeup is not who you are. I hate putting makeup on because I feel like people don’t see me for who I am. They see the color of my eye shadow or the highlight on my cheek. It saddens me that people feel they need to resort to makeup to feel pretty or more beautiful. Someone should like you for who you are, not for who you are with makeup on. I hate to see my friends be so hard on their appearance when that is not what matters. I know what you’re thinking. My next sentence will be very cliché, but in all honesty, I have grown to believe in it. It is not what’s on the outside that matters but what’s on the inside. I want someone to like me for the crazy, funny and bubbly personality I have, not because I look good with makeup on.

God has made me who I am without makeup on and I embrace it. I love being me. I don’t wanna be anyone else. I just always want to better myself. I don’t want to be the next Kylie Jenner or the next Angelina Jolie or the next Jennifer Aniston. I wanna be the best Morgan I can be.

I want to strive for positivity where there seems to be a lot of negativity. I want to make people realize that they can be themselves without makeup or any type of face or hair product. They can be beautiful without it. They are noticed for who they are and not the MAC makeup that they paid a hundred dollars to look prettier. We shouldn’t live in a world where girls feel they need makeup to impress people or where guys feel they need a fancy car and a lot of money to impress people. You just need be yourself and embrace your awesome personality. From here, let’s move forward and not let the negativity of others affect our attitudes. Positivity is key and you can embrace positivity through your natural self. BeYOUtiful. You are the only you, so embrace it and make sure your positivity is being said out loud for everyone to hear. Just be you. In the end, I know God has created me, and not the me with makeup, but the me that is positive, happy, outgoing and completely okay with embracing my natural self.
