Free arts and crafts show returns

Local and national vendors of art, including crafts, antiques and collectibles, will be featured during the annual Ponchatoula Antique Trade Days and Crafts Show. The trade days and crafts show will provide a space for art lovers to shop in the center of Ponchatoula and listen to music with free admission.

Chairperson of the Ponchatoula Antique Trade Days and Crafts Show and two year board member of the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce Judy Vice Berner explained that a variety of food will be available including jambalaya, seafood chicken, funnel cakes and desserts by a dozen vendors. Vendors of arts and crafts, antiques, collectibles, furniture, repurposed food and face painting will be in attendance.

“We feel there is something for everyone of all ages including a petting zoo by the Ponchatoula High FFA,” said Berner. “There is a huge variety of food and merchandise.”

Paintings, drawings, woodcraft and fabric will be among the art displayed and will be available for purchase from the artists.

“Artists who will be participating include Basem Audeh with a handmade nativity set and crosses, Elrin Fanguy with Louisiana themed acrylic art, photos and graphic designs by Erin Rode-Fiorello, Local Honey by KJ Lodrique, as well as several vendors selling homemade natural soaps, bath products and lotions,” said Berner.

The Antique Trade Days and Crafts Show will take place Friday, Nov. 4 to Sunday, Nov. 6. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day in the Downtown Ponchatoula Commuter Parking Lot on 109 West Pine Street.

LA Chain Gang will perform on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Vida Duet, husband and wife vocalists, will perform on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is the 11th year that the trade days and crafts show has been held, originally being postponed in fall 2005 because of Hurricane Katrina.

“Trade Days was postponed until March 2006,” said Berner. “It is the only event of its kind and size in the area having been in existence since 2006.”

Applications for a vendor or artist are accepted based on the limits of the location of the trade days and crafts show.

Berner views the event as a gateway to promote the local area, businesses and artists, as well as to welcome vendors from other locations such as Ponchatoula, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin, Arkansas and Tennessee.

“Trade days is a major event to attract people to Downtown Ponchatoula and the surrounding area,” said Berner. “It allows individuals to sell their wares whether old or new, including crafts, vintage, art, repurposed, etc. Many are family-owned small businesses and home based businesses.”
