As most people may know, the month of October has been designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout the country. The month of October also happens to be the month when Homecoming, along with many other events, usually occur every year. In knowing that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dining Services, along with help from Hall Council, decided to host the upcoming event “Eat, Drink, Pink.”
The event will take place during Homecoming week on Wednesday, October 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Mane Dish.
When it came to deciding to hold this new event, Dining Services Marketing Coordinator Fallon Myers and her team wanted to give it a unique type of name that would attract students.
“We wanted something different and, of course, since we are Dining Services, we wanted to incorporate food,” said Myers. “Actually one of my interns came up with the title ‘Eat, Drink, Pink’ just because that’s a popular slogan and, of course, since it’s breast cancer awareness, we chose ‘Pink”.
Pink desserts like cupcakes and cake, and pink decorations will be featured throughout the Mane Dish, along with a photo booth by Hall Council. Lipstick and paper will also be available to write the names of loved ones to ‘kiss away cancer.’ Lastly, the first 150 students that enter the event will be prized with small giveaways. According to Myers, those small prizes are to remain a secret until the event.
Myers says the event will raise breast cancer awareness with the prize, the title “Eat, Drink, Pink” and the ‘kiss away cancer’ part of the event.
“We will tell students to make sure that they get checked, bring awareness to it and to just remember family members or friends that we have lost to breast cancer,” said Myers. “It’s always good to share and to encourage students that know people that are fighting that battle. The event is meant to bring awareness to breast cancer and is also meant to bring support. It’s a place where students can come and talk to other students about breast cancer and even get support for themselves, if they need it, or for family and friends.”
According to Myers, students are also encouraged to wear pink to the event. “Eat, Drink, Pink” will be open to all of those who either use a meal plan, cub cash, cash, credit or debit.
