    Professional women mean business

March marks Women’s History Month, and the Tangipahoa Professional Women’s organization, along with the Louisiana Small Business Development Center, will be hosting the Women Mean Business Conference 2016.

On Thursday, Mar. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the conference will be held in the Student Union Grand Ballroom.

“It is an all-day event with networking, speakers, a silent auction, a day for professional women,” said Assistant Director and Training Coordinator of LSBDC Sandy Summers. “One of our goals for Tangipahoa Professional Women is to provide resources and tools for professional women and those aspiring to be professional women.”

One of the goals for the conference is to benefit the future of Tangipahoa Parish women.

“We would like them to meet the ladies of the community,” said Summers. “Hopefully to gain opportunities as well as job opportunities. The speaker has some really good topical areas that would benefit a professional women student in general; no matter what stage of life they are in. We are hoping that there will be some professional development for them as students and some things that they can take back and apply to their lives as students and upcoming professionals as well.”

The conference for professional women is expected to be a fun-filled affair.

“It is going to be a really fun day,” said Summers. “We can still have fun in a professional work tone. It is not going to just be a day sitting and listening to people. We are going to have a lot of fun things going on such as a lively discussion.”

One of the benefits for Southeastern students will be that they can attend for free.

“We are always trying to increase the number of students,” said Summers. “We applied for a grant through the university and they provide dollars for departments that are doing things to provide cultural development for students. Because of that grant, we are able to offer the event for no cost.”

The registration can be found online at tangipw.org/wmb. Students may enter the code WMBLIONUP and click “zero out” to wipe out their registration fee. Also, you may contact LSBDC at 985-549-3831 or [email protected].

Pre-registration is a must to be able to attend the Women Mean Business Conference 2016. The deadline to register is today.
