Golf team to host Birdies and Bogeys Craft Show

Mother’s Day is around the corner and the Men’s Golf team wants to help students find the perfect gift for their mothers by hosting the ‘Birdies and Bogeys’ craft show fundraiser.

On Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Men’s Golf team invites students to come out to the Pennington Center and shop around to help them raise money for golf equipment and other athletic needs.

‘Birdies and Bogeys’ is free admission for students and will cost three dollars per person or five dollars per two people,so attendees are encouraged to bring friends.

“We have been kind of challenged,” said associate professor of communication and coach Jake Narros’s wife Dr. Amber Narro. “All athletic teams have been challenged because of budget cuts and things of that nature. We are raising money to support the golf team.”

This is the team’s first craft show fundraiser and they hope it will grab people’s attention who are not a part of the golf community.

“We have got to reach out beyond who we normally touch and people who may not know Southeastern has a golf team,” said Dr. Narro. “It is about awareness and it is also about having a fun event that non-golfers can participate in and still have a good time.”

Several non-profit organizations and organizations from the university will set up booths to display their works of art. There will be things from handmade jewelry to metal artwork. For students interested in fashion, there will also be makeup for sale, a fashion boutique and on site monograming.

“We’re gonna be doing some onsite monograming and we’re gonna be raising money for the golf team,” said R&R Printing owner Robert McDaniel. “I attended Southeastern, so we’re happy to help out.”

Scentsy Fragrance is another one of the vendors that will be at ‘Birdies and Bogeys.’

“We specialize in a safe and decorative way to add fragrance your life, to your home, to your car, to your gym bag and from your head to your toes,” said Hammond resident Amy Durnin. “With over eighty scents to choose from, you’ll be sure to find a fragrance that you absolutely love.”

Durnin believes that by being a part of the craft show, she will help support not only the golf team, but the university and community.

“I’m looking forward to the Birdies and Bogeys’Craft Show,” said Durnin. “As a Southeastern graduate and resident of the parish, I believe in helping support Southeastern and the community. I hope the show will be successful for all, as well as the Men’s Golf Team and will be an ongoing event in the future.”
