The Campus Activities Board has done a series of glow in the dark events since the start of the semester and they continued it with Capture the Flag last Tuesday.

Students gathered at the Pennington to sign up and participate in the event.

“It was mostly our team, the CAB employee’s idea,” said CAB Student Assistant Julie Entremont. “We wanted an athletic kind of event. I had looked on other campus activities board websites and they had glow in dark capture the flag, so we thought, why not? It goes with our glow in the dark theme that we are going towards this year.”

Students were broken up into two teams. One team wore green glow sticks and the other wore red glow sticks. Teams had to grab flags from the other teams appointed flag holder.

“It was really fun,” said Steven Maestas, a freshman athletic training major. “I did not expect it to be that high paced and everything, but still, it was great.”

Some rain fell earlier that day and made the ground wet and a bit muddy. However, that did not stop CAB from having the event outside.

“We did not count on it being muddy and wet,” said Entremont. “Since it did rain, I was going to postpone. They had students who wanted to play in the slop so I said ‘Let’s see how many people we have’ and it was actually a really great turnout.”

Students enjoyed playing Capture the Flag in the muddier environment and thought it made the game much more exciting to play.

“It was just really fun and a sweaty, good time,” said James Stillwell, a freshman psychology major. “The mud just livened it up and added something to make it more difficult and crazy. It made it a true free-for-all when someone just goes into the mud and someone tries to rip off someone else’s flag.”

This event was one of the more athletic events that CAB has done recently and they might continue to do more.

“We are basically doing a variety of events to see what the students want,” said CAB Coordinator Nick Elliott. “Seeing that people are coming to this event and the students look like they are enjoying themselves, if students want more of that, then I am sure the students in the office will plan more.”

Some students would prefer more team-oriented events that bring students together as a team.

“I would love more hands on events like this,” said Stillwell. “Just a bunch of people teaming up, working together and getting to know each other.”

CAB will also continue their glow in the dark theme for at least one more event this semester.

“We actually have one more glow in the dark theme,” said Entremont. “It’s BIN-GLO. It is going to be glow in the dark bingo.”

Before the start of the event it rained and made the ground near the Pennington wet and muddy. However, instead of canceling the event, CAB continued on with it and students enjoyed the slippery terrain.
