    No time for politics

    No time for politics cartoon

As most people know, November is approaching quickly. That means for the past year or so the citizens of the United States have been watching the news and keeping up with all of the presidential candidates. They have been watching all the speeches made by Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to see who would be best in office.

Well, I am lucky I even know who is running. I work three jobs; two in New Orleans and one writing for the newspaper. Plus, I am in five online classes. Online classes that involve a lot more reading and doing work on my own. So, what is my point you ask? My point is that I really do not have the time to pay attention to what Clinton wants to do and probably won’t, or what Trump wants to do that probably isn’t even necessary for the United States.

At this current moment and really every moment since the presidential race began, I have been in school and working. I do not have time to watch the debates about stuff I honestly don’t even understand. Politics are extremely boring to me. So why would I even waste my time listening to some man or woman rant about what they think is best for the U.S. when I could use that time to pass my classes and to get a degree so I can get the job I want when I graduate. Nowadays, you need a degree to get a job. I need to work hard in my classes, so I can pursue the career I want.

Yes, I understand that it is important to know who I am voting for, but to me my classes are more important. As much as I love to watch TV, the political channel is definitely not something I would put on.

I would much rather use two hours of my time to watch something I actually enjoy on TV when I am taking a break from schoolwork. My choice would definitely be to see what the Evil Queen has been cooking up on the season of “Once Upon a Time,” and what trouble Annalise Keating is getting into on this season of “How to Get Away with Murder.” You read correctly, I do have the time to watch TV because I use my time wisely enough where I can enjoy my two favorite TV shows. Plus, it benefits having a record button so I can record them and watch them when I want.

When we were growing up, teachers didn’t teach us about politics. It was always the history of politics. It was never what the present government was like. Maybe they should change that so the future generations will understand and want to be involved in the voting process. The government dictates what we have to learn in school. Like what the first president did when he was in office. Okay, this is great information, but why are we learning about something that won’t helps us choose between Clinton or Trump? I feel if I had been more educated on the present government that maybe I would be able to watch a debate and understand what is going on. So as of right now, yes I will be voting in the election, but I will be asking, “Hey, mom, who do you want me to vote for?” I shouldn’t have to ask my mother who she is voting for. I should choose for myself. I should have a voice for myself and I should be able to go into the voting booth and be confident in my decision. Guess what, because I know barely anything about politics and the government doesn’t seem to worry about allowing it to be taught in schools, my voice is technically my mom’s.

Time management is important, but I manage my time between my three jobs, five online classes, an already light sleep schedule and my two favorite TV shows that are far more interesting than a presidential debate where I have no earthly idea what is being said. Hopefully, the rest of the country knows what they are doing because at this point, from what I am hearing by word of mouth; we aren’t in a good position with either candidate.
