    ‘Hamilton America’ coming to Columbia

Arriving this October to Hammond’s Columbia Theatre is the premiere of a preview of the documentary Hamilton’s America, hosted by Louisiana Public Broadcasting.

Hamilton’s America is a documentary following Lin-Manuel Miranda and his colleagues during the first couple of years leading up to the Broadway premier of the musical Hamilton according to Public Broadcasting System.

Katherine Scherer, according to the Public Information Officer for Louisiana Public Broadcasting, said that the preview will last an hour and a half and will include a half hour excerpt of the making of Hamilton’s America, a fifteen minute preview of the other films from the Public Broadcasting System Arts Fall Festival lineup, and watch Center Stage Performing Arts Academy in Gonzales perform musical theatre inspired by Hamilton’s America.

“We chose Hammond because of the large arts loving audience they have there,” stated Scherer when asked why of all cities in the state, they chose Hammond. “We look for opportunities to partner all around the state”.

At the event, attendees will have an opportunity to take part in an interactive costume/photo booth which Louisiana Public Broadcasting will be sharing on social media throughout the whole night.

The musical Hamilton is based off of the life Alexander Hamilton, statesman and one of the collaborators of the constitution, with a “hip-hop-historical” twist to it. The documentary follows Lin-Manuel Miranda and his actors as the guides as they venture through America’s post-revolution history. The musical is produced by the Academy Award and Emmy Winning producers Radical Media, while the documentary is produced by the Public Broadcasting System.

The preview will be at the Hammond Columbia Theatre on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. Tickets for this viewing will be free for all patrons.
