Lynn Trefzger travels all over the country and on cruise ships with her stand up routine that includes a trunk full of puppets that become outlandish characters.

Ventriloquist and comedienne, Trefzger, performed at the Columbia Theatre as a part of Fanfare. She has been featured on ABC, TNN, A&E and Lifetime.

Executive Director of the Columbia, Roy Blackwood, was thankful to have booked her to perform. Blackwood spoke with Trefzger’s agent. When he and his wife went to a booking convention, they saw just how unique and entertaining her routine was. Needless to say, the act caught his attention.

“As soon as I saw her, I knew I wanted to bring her here,” said Blackwood.

Trefzger stands out because while most comedians have a set routine and some may go off a script to involve the audience, she has a balance of both while performing as a ventriloquist. Blackwood took notice of her inclusion of the audience in her routine.

“I saw her do the routine interactively,” said Blackwood. “She brought people up from the audience and made them feel very comfortable. She treated them with respect, but then she made them hilarious and I think that is a real genius.”

Because Trefzger has a wide range of audiences, she has to be a versatile comedienne so that her content will be appropriate. Blackwood promoted her show as a family event and her content lived up to his expectations.

“It was a family show and she really played up that aspect of it,” said Blackwood. “That was one of my favorite parts.”

Trefzger did this by bringing up kids and adults to be a part of her act. She made her puppets ask the volunteers questions and she would think of stories and jokes on the spot based on how they answered.

Questions addressed where people were from, what they do for a living and if they are single. All became a part of her act. Blackwood enjoyed that the lives of audience members were central to some sections of the show.

“I like the fact that she interacted with the audience on their terms by finding out about where people were from and what they were doing,” said Blackwood.
