The Sims Memorial Library and The Friends of Sims Library plan fundraising events to offer daily users of the library more resources and equipment.
They announced what to look forward to for the spring semester.
“Every event we do is to benefit the users of the library,” said Director of Sims Library Eric Johnson. “Whether we buy subscriptions or we buy other equipment.”
The Friends of Sims Library is a group of people in the community who backup and support the Sims Memorial Library by putting on events and fund raising functions.
The Friends of Sims Library and the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts will join together to host a new event.
“The Friends of Sims Library and the Columbia Theatre will be putting on a cabaret,” said Johnson. “The event will feature a singer and her accompanist. We are really looking forward to this new event and if it’s a success, who knows it may be back next year.”
This semester, the library will be hosting its regular traditional spring events such as the memorial tea, National Library Week and the normal author readings.
Johnson believes that students can benefit from attending the events.
“Students can benefit a lot from these events,” said Johnson. “There are a variety of events, some are entertaining, some are informational and some are both. Students can also have the opportunity of hearing different authors talk about their work, and they also have the opportunity to get lots of cheap books for cheap prices.”
The library looks forward to building a stronger relationship with its users this semester.
“We are trying to connect a dialogue with our library users,” said Angie Balius, Reference Outreach and Instructional Media Librarian. “We want to see what they need and what they want. They can either walk in and pitch a suggestion or write us on one of our social media pages.”
