The Lion's Roar

Focus on news, not reality TV

The media has its way of shining the spotlight on popular celebrities instead of covering more significant things. I believe the media worries more about the Kardashians and Jenners than important news. I mean think about it. The Kardashians and Jenners have had the spotlight on them since day one, and the media loves them. I just can’t help but feel that the media thinks Kim Kardashian getting a bigger butt would be a better story than a dog saving a cat from a tree. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with them. But come on, do they have to have ‘news’ about them almost every day? For goodness sake, they have their own reality T.V. show.

I feel as though stories that are worthy of being covered aren’t covered because the media chooses stories that aren’t essential to what people want to hear. As far as the entertainment section goes, I feel that the majority of the attention is on celebrities. I’m not saying that I don’t want to hear about them so much. I’m saying that it would be nice if they included more non-famous people. Even if the media didn’t focus on a lot of non-famous people, they still could focus on the celebrities that are doing something productive for others.

So much time is wasted covering nonsense when the media could be covering the good stuff. For example, I have a media app on my phone, and I look through the stories at least three times a week. When I look through this app, nine times out of 10, I see something about Kim, Kylie, Kourtney, Khloe or Kendall. Some people despise the fact that the Kardashians and Jenners are being spotlighted so much. Just last week, I saw an article about Kim’s figure during her vacation to Costa Rica. It’s okay to cover things such as a celebrity’s figure if they have either lost or gained weight but to cover something people were already aware of is hardly news.

I understand that the Kardashians and Jenners may have a lot of drama in their lives, but we don’t need to know every single detail about them. They are so beloved by the media that if they even sneeze, it’ll be all over the web before you know it. I really do feel that the media pays too much attention to famous people like the Kardashians and whoever they associate with. There are real people with real issues that needs their stories to be told but don’t because the focus is on other irrelevant news. Maybe one day, the media will finally wake up and say “Hey, let’s not cover Kim Kardashian this week and cover more important news.”
