    Mardi Gras floats into town

When I think of Mardi Gras, I think of floats, beads, trinkets, screaming and a lot of drinking. Mardi Gras is made for all of those things. You are always going to have floats and beads. That is a given, but some people question whether people party too much. Mardi Gras can also be called Carnival. A carnival is all about having fun. So, why does it matter that people party too much? This is probably the only time it is socially acceptable to drink before lunch.

I will warn my readers now. Reader discretion is advised for the rest of these paragraphs. 21 and over only. Thank you.

As a person who is over the age of 21, I am allowed to drink. What bothers me is when I see these kids who do not look over 18 flaunting their to-go daiquiri cups. I think these kids party too much. Where are these kids’ parents when they are walking St. Charles Ave. with their alcohol?

On the other hand, there are always the frat guys or the just-out-of-college-still-wanna-be-cool people who are always drinking. As long as they aren’t being a complete nuisance to anyone around them, let them do what they want. I can understand people getting annoyed if they are crazy drunk and causing a ruckus, but if they aren’t, who cares what they are doing? Carnival is basically a party. I don’t think you can party too much at a party. That is what it’s there for and known for.

I think, when you see police breaking up a fight, is when people get too crazy. People let their alcohol do the talking and they think they can do anything. There are many times that my dad has pushed someone out of the way after their drunk-self spilled beer or some type of liquor all over me. There was another time when I was standing on a ladder and a drunk guy knocked my ladder. If my dad had not grabbed the ladder, I would have fallen and who knows what bones I would have broken. The moral of this story is when you become a hazard to someone else, that is when I think you are “partying too much.” If you can’t control your alcohol intake, don’t drink it. Those people are what ruin everyone else’s fun.

Drink responsibly people. Have fun, but don’t get crazy. Party, but don’t party too much. Drink, but not too much. “Liquor before beer you’re in the clear.” Don’t forget to drink water in between every drink. If you drink a glass of water in between every alcoholic drink, you can drink more without getting grossly intoxicated. Literally, take my advice. I’m helping you out. One more piece of advice, laissez les bon temps rouler. Happy Mardi Gras.
