Every Semester during Finals week, members of the Alumni Association and Parents Club get together to provide breakfast for the active members of Alpha Omicron Pi.
They believe providing breakfast for the members helps them to stay focused on their exams.
“Getting up early in the morning is one thing everybody knows I don’t like to do,” said Ava Ladell, member of the Alumni Association. “These girls are like my daughters, and since most of their moms aren’t here in Hammond, I want to make sure that they all get a good start in the day for exams. I remember my mom having breakfast ready every morning for us, and how, even today, I realize how special that was.”
Breakfast was served at 7 am Monday through Thursday at the AOPi house and featured a different meal choice each day.
“I feel like breakfast is very important during exam week,” said Devan Holder, Elementary Education major. Without breakfast, you probably wouldn’t feel as sharp taking exams. I am so happy and tankful to have such wonderful members of both the parents club and Alumni Association to help us out during this time.”
Breakfast choices included Bacon, eggs, toast, sausage, fruit donuts, yogurt and bagels.
“As a freshman, this is actually my first time experiencing exam week,” explained Abbey Smith, Kinesiology major. “I have been stressed out with studying and having these wonderful women here for us means so much to me. It is both a blessing and a convenience.”
Finals breakfast has always been a tradition with the Kappa Tau chapter of AOPi in Hammond, Louisiana. There is always a great turnout and appreciation for one another during the hectic time of the semester. Like Ava Ladell, may of the women are glad to help out and look forward to continuing the tradition for semesters to come.
