The Visual Arts Society promises an entertaining night for those wanting to expand their artistic tastes.
VAS is hosting its first movie night of the Fall 2014 semester Wednesday, Sept. 17. The movie being featured is “Gerhard Richter- Painting,” a documentary covering the German artist and his methods of painting, directed by Corinna Belz. Snacks will be provided.
“We’re showing this film because it is a good way to let students learn about different types of artists and the unique ways that they create their work,” said Madelyn Robillard, president of VAS.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the event. Robillard believes even those not involved with the arts would find something interesting in the documentary because of the uniqueness of the subject.
“The audience will probably be a majority of students from the art department, but it is an interesting movie for everyone,” said Robillard. “The way Richter applies the paint to his canvases is really different and something anyone would want to see.”
VAS is an organization dedicated to helping develop and mold the talents of student artists and aid them in entering the professional world. This organization puts on multiple student shows throughout the semester. They also sponsor lectures from visiting artists and organize Art Night.
The next two VAS meetings will be held Monday, Sept. 29 and Tuesday, Sept. 30. The meetings will take place at 5 p.m. in Clark Hall in room 313, which is located on the second floor of the building.
The deadline to submit art for the first show sponsored by VAS will be Thursday, Sept. 25. According to Robillard, any current student is welcome to submit art pieces of any medium.
