Organizations from across campus gathered in Strawberry Stadium and went head to head in Minute to Win It.

Minute to Win It was held Wednesday, Oct. 14. and consisted of a competition in which 19 student organizations battled against each other to win sweepstakes points for Homecoming.

Contestants took part in minute-long events such as Card Ninja, where the contestants had to throw playing cards at a watermelon in an attempt to get the card to stick into the watermelon, and Chocolate Unicorn, where the participants raced to balance a stack of snack cookies on their foreheads. Other events included Sticky Situation, Junk in the Trunk and This Blows.

“These games are based off of the TV show ‘Minute to Win It,’” said Regan Cascio, director of Homecoming. “The purpose of this event is to encourage students’ Homecoming spirit and competitive nature. This event does not raise money for any cause like other events do. It is simply to have fun and enjoy friendly competitions.”

Apart from new events, this year’s competition also introduced the use of the stadium’s jumbotron to show informational videos of the rules prior to each event.

The Catholic Students Association came out on top with the most points. The CSA felt they had much to prove as they were one of the newer organizations to join in Minute to Win It.

“For CSA, this is only our second year of doing Homecoming events against sororities and fraternities,” said senior kinesiology major Natalie Messenger. “So for us competing in this, we feel like we are trying to come up with everybody else so it was kind of nerve wracking but exciting.”

Even those who did not win remained in high spirits. Sophomore nursing major Cameron Kirkendoll noted that the BCM had fun, even though they did not place.
