We need more night life options

Being a student who lives on campus, every weekend is a struggle to find entertainment to occupy my spare time.

The AMC movie theater is often a go-to option for Hammond residents, but there can be several limitations. On weekdays, there are usually no show times roughly after 8 p.m..

It would be more beneficial if there were later show times because most students do not have classes on Fridays and want to go out Thursday night. Having limitations on show times makes it appear as if the theater were trying to set a curfew when that is the last thing college students want or need.

Another option would be to go eat out at a restaurant, but that is just as complicated.

Many restaurants in the area turn into bar scenes in the evening.

This becomes a struggle for those under age 21 because they may be able to enter the bar but they cannot drink; some bars may not even allow you to enter without being 21.

Bars, restaurants and clubs do not appeal to everyone, which can also make it difficult when finding weekend activities.

Going to the club and having a night out with friends is personally what I like to do, but it tends to get old and I desire something new. Also those who do not like to socialize or dance do not have this option.

With these few options, this still leaves many people, including myself, with little to nothing to do on the weekend.

It also makes me more vulnerable to be bored when most of my friends go home on the weekends because they know Hammond has little to offer.

There should be more reasonably priced activities that stay open during decent hours.

There are places like Laser Tag or bowling which students or residents may tend to overlook when considering what to do. But some have probably done that so many times; they want something new.

Sometimes I just feel so bored and helpless that I have no choice but to resort to my studies earlier than desired. I believe Hammond should be set up to the point where I am wanting to get my homework done so I can have it all completed before going out for the night. Unfortunately, that is not the case.
