STEM Club to host second annual Science Quiz Bowl

Anticipation builds as members of the STEM Club prepare for their annual Science Bowl. STEM is made up of students in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines.

The Science Bowl will take place Wednesday, March 25 and will be held in Pursely Hall, room 114 from 5-7 p.m. All non-members looking to register and compete are required to pay a $2 entry fee.

According to Andre Cousin, president of the Integrated Science Club, the STEM Club advocates the furthering of knowledge man has obtained through all scientific fields. Cousin also commented on how the competition will take place.

“It will be two rounds of Jeopardy style questions ranging from the categories of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography/Geology and even Science Fiction,” said Cousin. “There will be teams of 1-5 people competing for the grand prize as well as a prize for the runner ups.”

Science Bowl competition winners will have a chance to win prizes ranging from items such as gift cards, T-shirts and other items coming from local business around the Hammond area. The competition is open to everyone, including students who are not members of the Integrated Science Club.

Cousin also gave insight on the sole purpose of the competition along with what he and other members of the club are looking forward to.

“We are looking forward to a great turnout just as last year. We had over ten teams compete last year and we were able to raise a great deal of money from the science bowl,” said Cousin. “We love to organize activities to encourage people to immerse themselves in science and show their appreciation of science.”

Wednesday’s competition will be the STEM Club’s second time hosting the science bowl, and with last year’s competition becoming a success, Cousin along with other members plan to spark interest within this year’s competitors while welcoming all individuals having a zeal for science.

“STEM Club works to inspire greater interest in all STEM majors as well as spurring people’s interest in science, technology, engineering and mechanics,” said Cousin.

Members of the STEM are eager for a huge attendance with welcoming their second annual quiz bowl. Cousin gave reasons for why students should attend along with the perks of being a member of STEM Club.

“We raise money for the organization so we can take members on trips to the Audubon Zoo, Global Wildlife and other visits to places where STEM can be fun,” said Cousin. “We want people to come out to enjoy the science bowl for prizes, competition, friendship and mutual appreciation of science.”
