The annual Swamp Bowl tournament will offer students an afternoon of slippery, muddy competition.

The 2015 Swamp Bowl tournament will be held Friday, April 24 at 12:30 p.m. As usual, the games will take place in front of the Pennington Student Activity Center.

Those looking to register and get down and dirty can make their way to the PSAC or contact Campus Activities Board. Registration is being accepted through Wednesday.

The rules of Swamp Bowl are simple: contestants are pitted against one another in a game of volleyball with a twist. They must play in a pool of mud about a foot high, turning an ordinary game into a unique challenge for all teams.

Teams registering for the tournament must have a minimum of six people and can have a maximum of nine. Each team must pay $60 to register for the tournament, and each player will be provided with a T-shirt.

CAB designed the tournament rules to ensure all players will have an equal opportunity to participate.

“[The tournament is] double elimination, so you get two games guaranteed. Jambalaya and food will be out there too,” said Todd McElroy, director of CAB.

The jambalaya will be provided by Swamp Box Café, a Denham Springs-based restaurant which routinely serves South Louisiana dishes.

In recent years, the annual Swamp Bowl has increased in popularity among students, with approximately 40 teams participating each year. CAB hopes to see those numbers increase.

“Usually right around 40 teams participate in the event,” said McElroy. “It’s grown nicely in popularity. It’s obviously a lot of fun. People love to give it a try. They’re a little hesitant at first, but once they first hit the mud and they’re used to it, they’re ready to go for it.”
