Southeastern Louisiana University football coach Ron Roberts announced the recent signing of three players to the 2012 roster, increasing the Lions' total of mid-year transfers to five.
Signing a Grant-In-Aid with the Lions are junior college defensive back Theo Alexander (St. Louis, Mo.), JUCO offensive lineman John Murphy (Alameda, Calif.) and defensive lineman Collin Middleton (Cedar Park, Texas). Alexander and Murphy each will have two years of eligibility remaining while Middleton will enter the 2012 season as a freshman.
They join defensive back Tiray Dove and receiver Roosevelt Morrisset as the most recent signees for Southeastern. All were enrolled in classes that began on Tuesday and will take part in spring practice that begins March 5 with the annual Spring Game scheduled for March 31.
Alexander, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound safety, recorded 41 tackles at ASA (N.Y.) College where he was a teammate of Dove. As a prep standout at St. Louis' Gateway Tech, Alexander was rated as one of the top receivers in the metro area before being converted to free safety in junior college.
Middleton, a 6-2, 255-pound defensive end, recorded 68 tackles with 10 sacks and 15 tackles for loss as a senior at Cedar Park High. Middleton, who originally committed to Air Force, earned All-District 25-4A honors as a senior for the Timberwolves and was an honorable mention All-State selection.
Murphy, a 6-4, 320-pound product, helped the College of San Mateo (Calif.) to a pair of 8-3 records and was an anchor on a line that helped the Bulldogs average over 300 yards rushing per game. A three-year letterwinner at Encinal (Calif.) High School, Murphy helped the Jets post a combined record of 34-5, including a 13-0 mark and the BSAL championship in 2008.
