The New Orleans Pelicans suffered a defeat against the Phoenix Suns on Apr. 9 with a final score 100-121. However, a team of seniors and marketing, general studies, literature and language majors worked together in order to create a night where students and alumni could watch the Pelicans game at a group rate.
“One of the sales representatives is a SLU grad,” said senior business administration major Joshua Barnhill. “We were able to talk to Matt Perrin and do a night.”
Students and alumni were able to purchase tickets at a discounted rate for the night. Also, Southeastern was on a list of groups that were mentioned on the jumbo-tron during the game.
Barnhill is in a class for public relations. The goal of the Southeastern Louisiana University Night with the Pelicans was to create a fun, public event for the university, off campus grounds.
“The marketing team wanted to do something exceptional for a marketing project to get a real-world experience in public relations,” said Barnhill.
A total of around 25 people purchased tickets. According to Barnhill, Group Sales Account Executive Perrin has shown an interest in making this a recurring event.
“Hopefully we opened the door with the Pelicans to future events,” said Barnhill. “The students that participated brought in goodwill and a great experience.”
